Eight local arts and business leaders will be recognized for their contributions and support of the arts community at the Eighth Annual Regional Business/Arts Summit on Thursday at the Enterprise Center at Burlington County College.
"These individuals are being recognized for the outstanding contributions they have made to enable the arts to help strengthen our communities," said Bart Johnson, chairman of the Arts and Business Partnership of Southern New Jersey, which is presenting the awards.
"It's a two-way street. These people are contributing to the arts and that enables the arts to contribute back to the communities and make them better places to live and work. This two-way street enriches our communities," Johnson added. [...]
Also following the "Freedom Sings" performance will be the announcement of the inductees to the 2006 South Jersey Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame.
This year's nominees are: singer Frankie Avalon, actress Laurie Beecham, violinist Sarah Chang, opera singer Osceola Davis, actress Calista Flockhart, actor John Forsythe, actor Preston Foster, artist Winslow Homer, Lenox China founder Walter Scott Lenox, jazz saxophonist Greg Osby, actress Kelly Ripa, rock musician Patti Smith and journalist I.F. Stone.

Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal") and "Six Feet Under's" Rachel Griffiths will get $800,000 each for filming a pilot for ABC.
The actresses are each getting $200,000 to shoot the pilot for "Brothers and Sisters," then will get an additional $600,000 even if the series is not picked up, sources told TMZ.com. If the show does make it into the ABC lineup, Flockhart and Griffiths will get $100,000 per episode.
Flockhart has refused numerous offers since "Ally McBeal" went off Fox TV, but Harrison Ford's longtime squeeze was reportedly drawn to her character of a right-wing talk host who is forced into running a business with her siblings after the death of their father, TMZ.com said.
Other cast members include Balthazar Getty, Ron Rifkin and Jonathan LaPaglia.

Rachel Griffiths ("Six Feet Under") and Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal") are the latest additions to the drama pilot, about the lives of four adult siblings. Calista Flockhart will play Kitty March, who's described in the casting notice as: "Early-mid 30's, beautiful, very appealing, articulate, politically right of center, Kitty is the host of a radio show broadcast nationally on satellite and a moderate Republican who yearns for the Republican party of Eisenhower and Lincoln--and her dad. One of five children born to a vigorous, well-to-do, close-knit Southern California family, whose fortune was made by their "Golden Bear" specialty foods, Kitty lives in New York City, where she's in love with venture capitalist Jonathan Sternfeld, but she's only too happy to go back home to Malibu for her 30th birthday with her family. Devastated by the unexpected death of her beloved father but bolstered by his lifelong love and encouragement of her (and all his children), Kitty puts her grief behind her and it's business as usual when she auditions for a TV talk show based in L.A. - a huge new opportunity for her. Somewhat putting a damper on her excitement when she's offered the job is a counter-offer by Jonathan to marry him, settle in New York and raise a family--and though she loves Jonathan, her independent, ambitious spirit feels "cornered" by his untimely request."

Hit TV show Ally McBeal was blamed for sparking eating disorders among the cast during its successful five-year run.And now Calista Flockhart, Ally's main star, has revealed she DID suffer from an eating problem whilst working on the legal drama. Calista told the Daily Mirror that the stress of the show led her to cut back on food and put herself through a tough exercise routine.
"I was working 15-hour days on the set and then I was dealing with the end of the show, which was basically my life. I started under-eating, over-exercising, pushing myself too hard and brutalising my immune system."
She reassured her fans that she is "much more healthy these days."
Calista's appearance first caused concern when she arrived at the 1998 Emmy Awards in a tight shift dress. But the 40-year-old actress said at the time that her "tiny bones" were the reason for her small frame.
Last month, Calista's co-star, Portia De Rossi, revealed she battled with her weight whilst on the show.

Calista Flockhart is set to deliver a speech to students at Pepperdine University Law School in California next month (April 06). Harrison Ford's long-time girlfriend and mother of adopted son Liam, five, will give the keynote address for the discussion entitled Balancing Career And Family: A Work/Life Symposium.
The 41-year-old actress hasn't worked much since the Emmy-winning comedy series ended in 2002, but will be making her return to TV in upcoming ABC drama "Brothers And Sisters," writes website PageSix.com.

Actor HARRISON FORD has slammed the media's obsession with his relationship with CALISTA FLOCKHART, claiming the frenzy surrounding their romance almost ruined it before it began. The 63-year-old actor stunned the world when he began dating the former ALLY MCBEAL actress in 2002 and soon the world's press were camped out on his doorstep. He says, "The paparazzi had a harvest didn't they? I read most of it, I wanted to know what they were saying about me and whether it was accurate. "But I also knew that time would move on and my so-called misdemeanours would be forgotten. There would soon be someone else to put out there, getting the same treatment. So I didn't complain and just got on with things."
